Happy New Year! Now Look Back.
Hope everyone’s holiday break was as much fun as mine (By the way, I didn’t serve a cake, and it wasn’t a problem.)
As we head into the New Year, I’m reminded of a story that got away from me last year: Restaurants That Time Forgot. I asked readers to let me know their favorites in my Foodnotes column in the fall, spurred by the closing of the Cabin in Greenburgh. I got a couple of nominations  Spadafino’s in Valhalla and Valhalla Crossing  but I’m looking for more. Many more. I’m thinking Nanuet Restaurant and Nanuet Hotel. I’m thinking La Manda’s and Francesca’s. (Why are so many of these places Italian?) I’m thinking Jennifer’s.
What are you thinking?

I’m thinking…..Why isn’t there a french restaurant in Rockland County? When I read Didier Dumas opened in Nyack I went apoplectic. A french restaurant is long over due. I usually have to drive over the bridge or head into NJ for a taste of my favorite cuisine.

french restaurant? isnt that an oxymoron? the french can cook?
I cried when Ivona’s (german )closed in garnerville. now i have to check out black forest to get my german fix.
As for italian restaurants , just because they say they are italian doesnt mean they are … My pet peeve is why is everything in NYACK. i am so tired of nyack, places open there and become foofoo and over priced.
I walked by didier and dumas, it looked vacant and like they didnt have a huge selection.
Magdalena,
That reminds me… there’s a French restaurant just over the border that might fit into the “places that time forgot” category. I’ve never been, so I can’t say, though:
Madeleine’s Petit Paris, 416 Tappan Road, Northvale, N.J. 201-767-0063.
Steve,
Patisserie Didier Dumas has some excellent pastries, sandwiches and croissants. The coffee’s great too.
ok maybe i’ll drop by to check out the pastries.
La Scala in Armonk is a great traditional Italian restaurant.
Thanks Tom! What do you like there?
Annie’s in Stony Point- definitely a place that is old-school- and besides the great patio/drive-in atmosphere, you can eat in the retro dining room all year.
Any update on that rumor they were to close? (sob!).
