Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

The Most Romantic Restaurant?

Posted by: Liz Johnson - Posted in Uncategorized on Jan 22, 2007

So I’m working on a piece for the paper that might help you make your Valentine’s Day reservations, if you haven’t done so already. Food freelancers Judy Hausman and Jill and Deven Black and I are picking a list of our top 10 most romantic restaurants for next week’s issue of The Line. But I’d like to hear your nominations. Whichever restaurant gets nominated the most (and isn’t part of our original 10 selections) will be the bonus blog favorite restaurant in the newspaper. I may even print your comments. So let’s hear it. Which are your favorites?

Do me a favor: One nomination per comment, please. It’ll help me tally things up easier. Thanks.

    RESTAURANT THAT IS MOST ROMANTIC IN THE COUNTY;

I LIKE TANGO GRILL IN WHITE PLAINS. FLOWERS ADORN THE TABLES AND THE SERVICE IS GREAT. THE FOOD IS WONDERFUL.

  2. tad says:

    Muscoot Inn

This charming lopsided gem in Somers offers great food on a freshly flipped over table cloth.

  3. James says:

    Bloom Restaurant

  4. Vanessa says:

    121 Restaurant in North Salem

A cozy table by the fireplace to enjoy wonderful food and a nice glass of wine

  5. Laurel says:

Buffet de la Gare in Hastings

  6. Don Vitullo says:

I have the perfect place for the perfect Valentines Day dinner!

Please see the following review where we failed our latest Westchester County health inspection report:

I think Valentines would be great at the Boulder Creek Steakhouse in Yonkers because your sweetheart will think “wow, my guy has such confidence taking me to such an unsafe place”. Although the steaks are terrible, the dim lights make your date look better. Please come by and buy some drinks. We really need the business.

  7. Em says:

Paradise in Verplanck. An old, family-owned restaurant. The food is cooked with love!

  8. magie says:

The new resaurant One in irvington is my choice. my husband took me there several weeks ago and I can’ get the ambiance and the amazing food out of my mind. From the wine, foie gras and goat cheese tart to the wine room spacious dining room. i just had a warm welcoming feeling from the time i walked into the building. i hope that i’m treated there for valentines day!

  9. James says:

I am so sick and tired of foie gras.

  10. Steve C. says:

My house. kick the kids out. and cook a meal the wife loves. incense and candles. This can done any day but V day. cause i dont believe in V-Day.

  11. R.K. says:

    Frodo’s in Pleasantville.

Private table by the window to the right just as you enter.

    ALSO-

Cafe Meze in Hartsdale – Any table in the place!

  12. Angela says:

Mohonk Mountain House! The view, the ambiance and the food are all fabulous!

  13. Scott says:

I like to enjoy Cafe’ Antico in MT.Kisco, but the Blue dolphin in Katonah and 121 in North Salem are very good spots as well. You can also stop at Lexington Square Cafe’ also in Mt. Kisco. But my All time favorite has to be La Fontane’ In Somers off of RT 100…. My wife and I go to La Fontane every Valentines day. Each year they have a Gentleman who plays the Piano right in the middle of the resturant on a very nice Steinway piano. That mixed with candles and great service make for an excellent, romantic time…

  14. Dara says:

    TRAVELERS REST IN YORKTOWN

    DEFINATELY THE BEST.

SINCE I GOT MARRIED AND GO BACK EVERY YEAR.

  15. Jerry says:

I enjoy my house. We cook together and eat together. Candles, wine and No children around..

  16. Lisette says:

The Arch Restaurant in Brewster. Small, intimate, exquisite food, decor and service (difficult to find all these qualities in the same establishment). Definitely worth the drive!

  17. Jackie says:

Le Chateau in South Salem can’t be beat. Romantic. French. 2 seatings for Valentine’s Day. Set menu. Excellent.

  18. Mark says:

Michael’s on the pelham-bronx border on route 1. This family owned italian establishment has a delicious menu as well as a cozy, family atmosphere. I come all the way from Arizona to eat at this place every chance I can. I highly recommend this place to any couple of any age to enjoy a great meal for a great price.

  19. Jane says:

My home is the most romantic these days(with 2 working parents and 2 young children)...or at least the most filled with love. Last year all the adults in the house (my sis and her toddler daughter live with us) and my oldest child (then 6) each got to request their absolute favorite food that could either be prepared at home or picked up from take out. We had quite a smorgasbord from McDonalds to sushi. Valentine’s day celebrates love…and by eating what we love with who we love it was a perfect Valentine’s day for all of us.

  20. Joel E says:

Almost every Valentine’s Day I take my wife to Sonora in Port Chester. They always have a special menu and the ambiance is just perfect for a romantic evening. I have to say it is one of the very few places in Westchester where I can get consistently terrific food. Although its not champagne, clinking glasses to two Mojitos is a pretty nice way to say, “I love you”

    Joel E

  21. Wendy says:

I admire all the men that come to this area and say that they like to cook at home and enjoy their own surroundings for romance. Steve C., Jane and Jerry have it right.
You do all your drinking at home, don’t have to run the risk of a DWI. You send the kids to a friends house or you just don’t have any. Then you go to the bedroom and really get things cookin’!

  22. C.C. says:

FYI – Cafe Antico is no longer… they moved another restaurant there.

Harvest on the Hudson can be romantic… and the food is exceptional.

  23. James says:

Harvest is beautiful but the food is mediocre at best. And very expensive!

  24. Nancy Claus says:

Purdys Homestead in North Salem: vintage house with fireplaces in every room, loads of candles and rose petals strewn across your table (if you tell them in advance it’s a special occasion). Terrific food and irresistable desserts.

  25. Michelle says:

I like Susan’s in Peekskill. A little pricey, but the food and ambience are great. Top-notch service, cozy atmosphere, candlelight, and people watching through the big windows in front. It’s great.

  26. Tom T says:

    Don up top is right.

Boulder Creek on Central Avenue in Yonkers has the most grizzled steaks around. For the same price, you can get a flawless steak at Outback… The service was horrible and no one cares. After two tries, I would never go back there for free.

  27. Andrea says:

You can never go wrong with dinner at the Iron Horse Grill in P’ville!

  28. Liz Johnson says:

    Michelle,
We already had the story on the page when you added your comment — so I’m sorry we missed Susan’s for the paper. And Nancy, you’re right on! Purdys is where we shot photographs for the story. Maureen Steppe dresses that place up nice!

  29. Stacey says:

TRAVELER’S REST IN OSSINING ON RT.100!! NOT ONLY IS IT THE #1 ROMANTIC RESTAURANT IN WESTCHESTER, BUT THE FOOD IS UNBELIEVEABLE AND THE SERVICE IS THE BEST. IF YOU HAVEN’T BEEN, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU MAKE A RESERVATION AND CHECK IT OUT. ENJOY!

  30. Bloom says:

We are doing a very romantic Valentine’s Day menu. We are serving fresh black French Truffles, shaved tableside on one of the appetizer and one entree. Our famous Sextini will be half off, $5 instead of $10. We will also have a wonderful live Spanish guitar player in the dining room. Can’t get much more romantic than that!

  31. dougk says:

visited the BLOOM website – ‘biodynamic wine’ and sextinis? where’s the exit i’m outta’ here!

  32. Bloom says:

We’re off Exit 12 – Saw Mill Parkway!

  33. Lou D says:

Had the worst experience in my 57 yr lifetime at PRIMAVERA in Croton Falls on Valentine’s day. 8 PM reservation,Sat down at 8:40 , got up walked out in disgust at 10 PM without any food arriving at our table.
