Do You Remember?
A reader emailed to ask me: “Does anyone remember a restaurant called Bill Rieber’s from a very long time ago?” I don’t ever recall hearing about it. What about you all?

Bill Rieber’s was located just off of the Saw Mill River Parkway between Ardsley and Elmsford. My parents took me there often in the 1940’s. I do not know when they closed-probably in the 1960’s
They had excellent American food. I especially was fond of their raw vegetable plate-celery, carrots, radishes etc. Almost all restaurants served similar dishes at the time.
If I’m not mistaken, Bill Rieber’s is what is now Antun’s in Ardsley, right off the Saw Mill.
Bill Riebers (which became Tail (tale?) of the Foxes and then Antuns is right off the Saw Mill River Parkway in Elmsford.
It had excellent food and many clubs met there.
I went in the early 1960’s – I’m not sure when it closed, but when it re-openend, it did so as a restaurant with a lively bar crowd, and bands. That I believe was in the early 1980’s.
So funny: I should have just asked my editor. She and a former colleague used to waitress there.
Dear Liz, Thanks very much for printing my query. I thank all the people who replied and solved the mystery. My husband, too, remembered his parents taking him there in the 1940’s on the way back to the city from their summer home in Lake Peekskill. Judy
