This just in from the folks over at Plates in Larchmont:

“Book & The Cook Series at PLATES Profiles Award Winning Authors

An exciting pair of events at PLATES Restaurant in Larchmont will make noted authors and exciting menus available to Westchester “foodiesâ€?.  This autumn “Book & The Cookâ€? series brings food writers and their new books to the kitchen and customers of Chef Matthew Karp, owner of PLATES.

First up on Thursday November 8th will be the “Discover Chocolateâ€? Wine Tasting Dinner designed to explore the range of Chocolate from savory to sweet.  International Chocolate Expert and Westchester Resident Clay Gordon will guide the evening providing information on the provenance, history and styles of one of the world’s favorite foods.  His new book, “Discover Chocolate â€â€Å“ The Ultimate Guide to Buying, Tasting, and Enjoying Fine Chocolateâ€? is due out mid- October and will be available for purchase at the event for a 35% discount.

Chef Karp and Mr. Gordon have together created a menu featuring 4 savory courses and 2 sweet courses, each paired with wine.  Starting with Wasabe peanuts dusted in Cocoa powder and circling from  traditional Mole Poblano to Choctal Cocoa Crunch, the chocolate journey will provide a platform for Mr. Gordon’s extensive knowledge of chocolate and unique skills at pairing it with adult beverages.  (Complete menu and wine lineup available below and at www. Platesonthepark.com/chocolate-menu.html).  The evening begins at 7 pm, and is $100. including wines with tax and gratuity additional.

On Sunday December 2nd food writer Melissa Pasanen and Head Chef Rick Gencarelli will make the trip to Larchmont from Shelburne Farms to share food and stories from Vermont.  Their new book profiles recipes from the Shelburne Farms Restaurant, named in October Gourmet as one of the 100 best farm-to-fork restaurants in the U.S., and their philosophies about healthy food systems.  Created in 1880 as a model farm and agricultural estate, Shelburne Farms continues that vision today as a nonprofit environmental education center, working farm and inn.  They welcome over 120,000 visitors each year to their 1,400 acres of pristine farmland.

For the 5 course dinner, Chef Karp and Chef Gencarelli will profile recipes from the farm and make use of actual farm produce such as Shelburne Farms cheeses, oven roasted apple butters and spiced maple nuts.  Both Chefs butcher whole animal in their respective kitchens and the menu will profile slow roasted meats, hand made pastas and farm produce.  Access to both Chefs and the writer will provide ample time for Q & A, food insight and kitchen tips.  The evening begins at 6:30 and is $75. with tax and gratuity additional.  Cookbooks will also be available at a 35% discount and can be signed for gift giving.
