Stars on the Small Screen


Two local chefs were on TV this week. Dan Barber of Blue Hill at Stone Barns was a judge on the finale of Top Chef on Bravo, and Jeffrey Vaden of White Plains was eliminated from “The Next Food Network Star.”
Barber played sous chef to Richard Blais, the chef-testant most like to use molecular gastronomy to impress the judges. Unfortunately, he fell short to Stephanie, who took the title. We didn’t hear too much from Barber at the four-course dinner that was the final challenge, but maybe that’s because he was sitting next to Gail?

Over on the Food Network, Vaden was asked to make a packaged product that reflected his culinary point of view, and the judges didn’t see him really selling it. 0618chefs002.JPG

“It’s about personality,” he said in his exit interview on “They’re looking for more dimensions. … Those dimensions are a little more private to me.”
