Two local chefs were on TV this week. Dan Barber of Blue Hill at Stone Barns was a judge on the finale of Top Chef on Bravo, and Jeffrey Vaden of White Plains was eliminated from â€œThe Next Food Network Star.â€
Barber played sous chef to Richard Blais, the chef-testant most like to use molecular gastronomy to impress the judges. Unfortunately, he fell short to Stephanie, who took the title. We didnâ€™t hear too much from Barber at the four-course dinner that was the final challenge, but maybe thatâ€™s because he was sitting next to Gail?
Over on the Food Network, Vaden was asked to make a packaged product that reflected his culinary point of view, and the judges didnâ€™t see him really selling it.
â€œItâ€™s about personality,â€ he said in his exit interview on foodnetwork.com. â€œTheyâ€™re looking for more dimensions. … Those dimensions are a little more private to me.â€
