Good morning on this rainy Monday. Sorry that I didn’t post on Friday but I was off enjoying the beach. I brought back clams from Klein’s in Belmar. I sauteed some garlic and spring onions and deglazed with a little clam juice. I added the clams and steamed till they opened and then flavored with some thyme.
Man oh man were those delicious. From Cape May, the guy said, and plump as a pillow.
On Saturday I hit the Pleasantville Music Festival (a big shout-out to 107.1 The Peak DJ Jimmy Fink for telling the crowd to come see me at the LoHud booth!). I had a great time and the beer from Captain Lawerence Brewery in Pleasantville was amazing as always. I adore owner-brewmaster Scott Vaccaro’s summer wheat beer and I love its very clever name: Sun Block. (The pulled pork sandwich from Quaker Hill Tavern in Chappaqua wasn’t bad either. Am I the only person who goes to a music festival and talks about the food?)
With that, here’s a look at what other people have been talking about.
MH Alice loves Mima in Irvington. (NY Times.) (Who doesn’t?)
The Thruway Diner in New Rochelle serves its last meal. (Ken Valenti/TJN)
Grandma Pie at Bella Paula Pizza in Croton. (Westchester Eats.)
And on Friday, we ran our last restaurant review in the The Line. We’ll be moving it to Wednesdays: we started last week with Half Moon. Look for a posting on this week’s shortly — I want your comments so I can choose a few to run in the Wednesday paper.
Meantime, here’s a link to Ted Mann’s take on SolMar in Tarrytown. (He loved it.)
