The Word on Tuscan Restaurant in Suffern (FKA Zzest)

I got the word back from Tuscan Restaurant. After several “can you call back laters,” I got a lovely manager named Sarah Sacks on the phone. She says Lou Diaz, who formerly owned Zzest, is still an owner, but Gregg Schwack has been gone for some time. A new owner is Pete Daniele, whom Sarah says has “extensive background in Italian cooking,” including owning several pizzerias and restaurants in Bergen County. “It’s traditional Italian dishes but done really really well,” she says.

The transformation happened Tuesday, July 8. Apparently there’s a fresh coat of paint and the bar area has been turned into a lounge, with couches and low tables. There’s a “Little Bites” menu that includes calamari, wings, mozzarella sitcks, shrimp cocktail, chicken tenders and mozzarella and proscuitto. The signature cocktail is a white cosmopolitan.

Inside the dining room looks the same. Signature dishes include a bolognese sauce and the fried calamari, which Sarah says everyone is raving about.
