Today’s Event for Eat Local Month at Stone Barns
Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture is one of the partners in the Locally Grown recipe contest, and they have issued an Eat Local challenge: to get everything you eat in August from within 100 miles. They’ve got a month’s worth of programming to help you along.

Here’s what’s going on today:

The Locally Grown Recipe contest is looking for the best recipes using locally grown ingredients. It’s presented by LoHud.com, mypersonalfarmers.com, Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture and Community Markets.
Finalists will participate in a “Top Chef”-style cook-off Sept. 9 at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, which will air on LoHud.com and RNN-TV. The winner will be announced at the Stone Barns Center for Food & Agriculture’s Harvest Fest on Oct. 4.
The grand prize includes a dinner for two at Blue Hill and a $300 gift certificate to mypersonalfarmers.com.
Other prizes:
First prize: $100 gift certificate to the farm store at Stone Barns and $100 to shop at any Community Markets farmers market.
Second prize: $100 to shop at any Community Markets farmers market.
Third prize: A package of tickets for 4 people to Stone Barns’ signature Insider’s Tour, an in-depth look at the farm offered every Friday and Saturday year round.
We’ll also feature recipes from the contest throughout the months of August and September in the Life&Style section of the Journal News and on the Small Bites blog. So get in there and enter — even if you don’t win, we might publish your recipe!
