Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

Where To Buy Baking Stuff?

Posted by: Liz Johnson - Posted in Uncategorized on Nov 24, 2008

A friend who does a lot of holiday baking had this question. I bet a lot of other people would like to know the answer.

do you know if any wholesale food places or bulk food places where I might get larger quantities of baking ingredients for less? I do a lot of baking at the holidays & don’t want to go broke this year.

First thing I though of was Yaranush on Central Ave in White Plains. They have lots of nuts and brittles in bulk. But I don’t know about flour and chocolate and stuff. Your thoughts?

  1. CR says:

    Costco or BJ’s.

You can also try calling King Arthur (in Norwich, VT), they might be able to name specific local places.

There is Restaurant Depot in Hackensack but you have to have a commercial license or at least a resale number and purchase in bulk. I found going there that they did not sell the sort of quality items I use. The flour is Hecker’s and the sugar is the usual granulated. I have been using Moscovado sugar, kind of pricey but it’s real. If you are purchasing single items the sales at supermarkets actually give a better price this time of year. For instance, the wholesale price of the least expensive butter is about $2.29 a pound but right now you can find it at $1.99 a pound. If you want to buy in bulk and split it with me, I’d be interested. Give a toot at : rivercook@gmail.com and happy baking!
