Guest blogger Emily Dugan McCarthy here, and it’s my first Friday night on the diet. Following the plan is getting tricky! My husband is dieting with me, and he is being very supportive, but he is not following Joy’s LIFE Diet as strictly as I am. He has not cut out alcohol completely during this first week. This is fine with me, most of the time. If we are eating dinner and he has a beer, it doesn’t make me want to have one. But it’s Friday night, he and his friend are having a drink after work—and having a fun time!—and I want to have one, too!
We are doing a lot of work to our house, and my husband’s friend is helping him out a lot. They are moving furniture, cleaning out the attic, ripping up carpet, etc; and they like to have a few beers while doing this. Not only are they getting a lot done, but they are having a good time. I shouldn’t complain, but it makes me want to have a beer, too! Instead, I have to do something else. They can have a fun time ripping up carpet, I am going to do the dishes, exercise, and read my book.
The light at the end of the tunnel is that I am only eliminating alcohol completely during week 1, and I only have 2 days left! I am not going to drink regularly during week 2, but at least I can have a beer with the guys if I want to.

Emily,
Know how you feel. I would kill for a drink, especially because it’s Friday night!
Thinking of you and can’t wait tll next week.

Great job Liz! I feel your pain- I’m on day seven of no alcohol or meat. I think I’ll go two weeks, though- it’s been pretty easy this time. I did eat a small bag of caramel popcorn this afternoon though. It was heavenly… I think I got my sugar quotient for the decade. Other than that I’ve been pretty good.
Although I’d love to take credit for this heroic effort, I’m not the one dieting! These posts are by guest blogger Emily Dugan McCarthy, who is on a very public quest to lose weight.
Good luck Emily!
