Stone Barns on Top Chef

Did you catch it? Top Chef was in Westchester on the show tonight! Chef-testants were divided into three “protein” teams — lamb, chicken and pork — to see who could come out on top using the freshest of farm ingredients from the farm at Stone Barns Center for Food & Agricutlure. Blue Hill at Stone Barns chef-owner Dan Barber was a judge for the meal — which the chefs prepared for the farmers and their families. (I caught a glimspe of Adam Kaye and a quote from Josh Lawler, among others.)  Craig Haney, Jack Algiere and Shannon Algiere (whom Stefan dubbed “chicken lady” at one point) were the chefs’ hosts, if you will.

I don’t want to be the spoiler (As a Tivo owner, there’s nothing I hate more) but let’s just say I nearly thought we’d have a Westchester double-whammy when chef-testant Leah Cohen of Scarsdale was on the team that Padma said Judges Table wanted to see. (With all that nuzzling with Hosea, I’m not surprised why our writer Linda Lombroso said it was awful hard to get her talking for our intial interview!)

It was fun to see beautiful shots of the farm — and both great and a bit sad to see how the chefs treated the animals and vegetables that grow there. I’ll give you more quotes once I’ve had time to dissect the episode a little more.
