Five Guys Burgers & Fries To Open in Nanuet Friday

Five Guys Burgers & Fries — the chain known for cutting its fries fresh and forming its burger patties daily — will open Friday in the Rockland Plaza in Nanuet.

“It’s the anti-chain chain,” says franchise owner Bill Gellert. People are known to be very passionate about the burgers, which are hand shaped on stainless steel tables visible in the kitchen.

Toppings include jalapenos, grilled mushrooms and grilled onions. The tomatoes are cut to order and the lettuce is shredded by hand rather than cut with knives.

The decor is simple, with tile floor and wood tables and chairs. Garage-style shelving holds peanut oil (for frying) and sacks of potatoes. Burgers are served in brown paper bags.
