We’re starting work on a story about old-fashioned butchers. I’d love to have your nominations for great ones. Thanks!

Sgaglio’s Marketplace is Katonah is great for meats and for other italian specialities.

A&S Pork Store on Central Ave in Yonkers if you are looking for some good italian sausage, veal chops, or braciole.

Karl Elmer’s in Montvale NJ and in Yorktown Heights NY is good for bratwust and knockwurst. Make sure you get the mustard and sauerkraut.

Last but not least is Whole Foods for ground lamb or veal as well as boneless short ribs.

We really like Nathan’s Kosher Meats (235th and Johnson in Riverdale) It’s Kosher, and the meat is expensive, but the quality is always outstanding. Our brisket has always been the talk of the Rosh Hashanah crowd. One year we got a brisket from somebody else, and it wasn’t nearly as good.
