New York, NY – It was announced today that Chef Joe DiMaggio Jr. has joined Zanaro’s Italian Restaurant. DiMaggio has created a new menu and is redefining the entire experience at this popular White Plains restaurant.
As a child, Chef DiMaggio spent six months a year in Manhattan working at Grazio’s, his family’s restaurant, and the other half in Italy working at their hotel in Bologna under pre-eminent Chef Piero Carbonetti. The true inspiration behind Zanaro’s new menu and its exciting take on true peasant Italian cooking are the fresh ingredients and recipes colored by those age old favorites his grandmothers passed to him over time.
A 30-year veteran of the industry, chef DiMaggio has conceived and built restaurants, hotels, casinos and more in every time zone across the globe. A rock star in his own right, he pals around with celebrities, rock stars and dignitaries – the common thread is their mutual love of food.
But the real magic is in the food – it’s about bold combinations like the subtle taste of mint in his eggplant appetizer served at room temperature or a pizza topped with lamb accented with Mediterranean curry. It is about flavor drawn out of the freshest available ingredients, like in his signature Exploding Garlic.
“It is an honor to welcome Chef Joe DiMaggio Jr. to Zanaro’s,” expressed owner Zane Tankel. “His incredible talents will first amaze the community of White Plains and then entice people from all over to taste his culinary excellence,” Tankel added.
Zanaro’s is located in the landmark Home Savings Bank Building on the corner of Mamaroneck and Main Streets at City Center in White Plains. Designed to replicate the Italian Countryside, Zanaro’s walls are adorned with murals, which create a warm friendly casual atmosphere. Dramatic 40 ft ceilings can still be found in this historic building. The original bank vault is used for private parties. The Vault Room seats up to 14 for an intimate private gathering.

Strangely, Zanaro’s is now a Buffalo Wild Wings, despite the food at Zanaro’s being respectful. Joe DiMaggio’s food that is. Rumor has it, he fled the city, with the restaurant spiraling downwards in sales and business once it was discovered he was a “fraud”. I didnt believe it until I investigated the Restaurant in its last days, struggling with a new chef and menu, as DiMaggio’s outdated culinary cuisine was abandoned, citing lack of interest from its declining patrons.
You know, I always wondered what happened there.. They used to do a great happy hour at Zanaro’s. Then this ego maniac arrived, changed everything and exited the happy hour as well. Some of his food was good, but on the level of NYC Italian, out of a 10, its a 4. What a shame, buffalo wild wings now, Zane Tankel knows business and should’ve done his homework on this little dog with no bark or bite. Has anyone heard of him before or since?
So, this so called celebrity chef is in Newnan out of all places with another Sa Za.. Read some mediocre reviews on this con-artist and tried to find a successful past history of restaurants he has opened. Well what do you know, EVERYTHING HE’S TOUCHED HAS FAILED! Wet Paint in Toronto, Za Za in FL, Zanaro’s in Whites Plains. Rock Star Chef? No wonder no one has seen this guy on TV, Top Chef, Iron Chef or a Judge on Chopped like all the other great successful celebrity chefs of today. The people of the south need to get hip to this Chef-Crook, hes a Fraud!...
Yeah, and now the place is closed like every other restaurant he consults with or opens.

This guy is fake and everyone knows it. A failing restaurant in Newnan, and Montgomery slowly on the way.. He ll never get it done. Wonder whos money is going down the drain on these projects, cause its not his. HE DOESNT HAVE ANY!
Apparently everyone doesn’t know it since he’s still out there doing what he does best…ripping people off! I worked for this fake back in 1990 at the Crystal Cabaret restaurant in Naples, FL. What an ego!This guy had so many stories….can’t believe he’s still scamming people! When the restaurant was close to tanking, he disappeared. I really thought he must be running from the law and thought one day he would end up in jail somewhere.
