I visited Blu at lunchtime today to see what was going on for restaurant week. I happen to go there quite often for lunch as it is close to work, however I was in for quite a surprise. The restaurant is usually very quiet at lunchtime, certainly not today! I was quite surprised to see the number of people at the restaurant, in fact, missed having a typical window seat. However it was lovely to see the Hudson from the table.
Their restaurant week lunch menu was compact, but in keeping with their regular menu. They have a compact but interesting lunch menu. Their appetizers included a black bean soup and a watercress salad with grilled pears. I tried the salad, felt that this was dressed just right, with a light balsamic dressing. The salad had blue cheese which paired nicely with sweetness of the pears.
Their entree choices were – beer battered fish and chips (this actually seemed to be quiet a favorite), a lamb option and gnocchi in a basil cream sauce. I tried the gnocchi which was absolutely perfect, soft full of the sweetness of potatoes. In fact, the sauce smelt of fresh basil well before the plate reached my table. The servings were generous I could eat only half of this to make sure I had room for dessert.
I was a little disappointed that they were out of the bread pudding with bourbon sauce and settled for the pecan pie a la mode. The pie was full of rich toasty nuts, I did not especially like the chocolate drizzle but partly because I am not a huge chocolate fan.
In general the food was great, the view amazing and the decor comforting and clean. The staff were very friendly but appeared to be a little overwelmned at times with the number of dinners but made up for this with their extremely friendly behaviour.
I certainly will be back and think everyone should check this place out!
