Want To Dine on a 15-Course Menu (With 15 Wines?) For Free?
Remember a couple of weeks ago I told you about a fund-raiser at Zanaro’s in White Plains?
Here’s a reminder:
“Feast for Peace” is a fundraiser for the We Are Family Foundation (WAFF), where chefs Joe DiMaggio Jr. of Zanaro’s and chef Don Pintabona, formerly a managing partner at Tribeca Grill, will create a 15-course tasting menu paired with Oriel wines. It goes from 6 to 10 p.m. June 8. Tickets are $175 per person.
A few of the courses include:
– Seared Sea Bass with Wild Mushroom Consommé /Oriel Portia Pinot Grigio – Torchon of Foie Gras with “Crazy Apples” /Oriel Femme Fatale Rose – Tuna Crudo, Ginger, Lavender & Meyer Lemon /Oriel Mana Sauvignon Blanc – Rigatoni Bolognese with Cognac, “Fat Ass” Cream & San Marzano /Oriel Trifola Barbera d’Alba – Braised Black Tar Demi Short Ribs, Poached Quail Eggs /Oriel VQM Cabernet Sauvignon – Intermezzo /Oriel 365 Prosecco with Pomegranate Ice

Conundrum!
Someone gave me a bottle of Dante Robino Chardonnay, 2007, from Argentina, and it’s now my favorite.
Delicate and fresh, not too sweet.
BTW, that’s Domaines Ott * Chateau de Selle Rose * Cotes de Provence I’m talking about…
Too bad I can’t really afford it anymore. Got any recommendations?

I love a chilled glass of Charles Krug’s Sauvignon Blanc. It is light and a bit fruity. I discovered it at the Wine & Food Festival- a night where many, many wines were sampled!
Two, choices. Cabernet Sauvignon or a Hofer Gruner Veltiner, hmmm….
my favorite summer wine is Reisling, yum!
I love a Provenical Rose during the warm months but I recently discovered Toad Hollow Pinot Noir Rose “Eye of the Toad”from CA. It was a recommendation from the owner of a local wine store.
Second favorite is Centine Rose from Italy.

Casal Garcia is it for me! It’s a Portuguese Vinho Verde (white wine)- it’s slight effervescence makes it crisp and clean and it works with just about any snack. I prefer it served chilled. Best of all you can pick-up a bottle for under $7, in most stores. Perfect for a breezy summer night inside or out!
The kids in bed, my husband by my side and a super grassy Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough like Cairnbrae in my hand. Mmmmmm
Nothing beats a Oaky Chardonnay. My favorite is Vine Cliff from Napa.

If we’re talking hot summer night, I really like taking an ice cold glass of dry gin and squeezing a lime into it. One man’s mouth puckering nightmare is another’s evening refresh.

Hard to choose one. Like chilled Brotherhood Winery (yes New York) May Wine, in general, a cool South African (such as Fleur Du Cap) Chenin Blanc is great in summer.
Nothing more refreshing than a little carbonation on a warm summer night – Nino Franco “Rustico” Prosecco for me please!

Santa Margherita chardonnay. I had my first on in positano 20 years ago when it was 6 dollars a bottle.
My other favorite way to drink wine in the summer is as a peach sangria. yum.
Cool…Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, and dusk with a puff breeze.
In 1981-82 I worked for the Clift Hotel in San Francisco. I had graduated the year before from Hotel School and was interested in Food and Beverage.
My fiance at the time and and I went on a Napa Valley Winery tour and went to visit Grgich Hills Winery. It was very low key at the time and we simply drove into the winery driveway, walked to the entrance and asked if we could purchase some wines and taste a few..
We were greeted by a really nice and sweet older man named Mike Grgich who personally gave us a tour of his winery, and told us about the winery’s partnership (“Hills” from the founders of “Hills Brothers coffee”. He was so nice and at the end of the tour, he gave my fiance a little kiss on the cheek which she and I still remember to this day as touching (I think he was in his 60’s or so at the time)
To this day, 27 years later, I still enjoy sitting on my terrace with a glass of Grgich Hills Chardonnay or Grgich Hills Cabernet, with my wife, and remembering that day fondly.
My favorite wine on a summer night is Gazela. Gazela is a
Vinho Verde from Portugal. Straw color, transparent and very pale, glints of brassy green.That reminds me of the grass being cut. It pours up with a very brief froth and leaves random bubbles behind, but it’s petillant, not truly sparkling.The bubbles sort of make a summer evening interesting. Simple, delicate white-fruit aromas focus on a hint of musky melon; light carbonation adds a prickle to the crisp, dry flavor.
Any type of Reisling is great in the summer.
I’m lately fond of a Honey wine I recently bought from Honeyrun winery. It’s the dry mead—no fruit involved (although they also sell elderberry and cherry honeywines) It’s sweet, dry , and delicious.
