Food Finds in the Lower Hudson Valley

Al Fresco Dining at Bistro Z

Posted by: Liz Johnson - Posted in Uncategorized on Jul 30, 2009

I got a press release about the patio dining at Bistro Z at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown a while back, but have been negligent in posting it. Mainly because I wanted to share a couple of photos I took way back when at the Greater New York Wine & Food Festival in May… (insert red face here). Sorry about that.

Now, this was before I was hosting the day-long cooking demos outside on the back patio at the hotel, so I needed a little sustenance, but I didn’t want to over induldge. A big plate of lettuce with a little protein did the trick:

The shrimp salad with shallots and pine nuts. Very nice!

My husband got the burger:

It was tasty but the choice of a round panino-style bread was a little strange.

Here’s a look at the restaurant:

The chairs are comfortable and the granite tables are pretty. My only wish is that it were a little more cozy. It’s all rather open to the hallways and lobby.

But the shrubs and trees they planted outside should make the patio quite comfortable.

The 411 on Bistro Z.

So with that, here’s the press release:

Bistro Z, the upscale modern American bistro at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown, has recently opened its patio for daily al fresco dining for the summer season.  The patio provides seating for up to 40 people and can be reserved for private cocktail parties for up to 175.

Bistro Z’s lunch menu features appetizers like calamari fritti with roasted red pepper and garlic aioli, artichoke ravioli with truffle oil and shaved parmesan cheese or a pear tart, poached in port and red wine with melted blue cheese.  Then choose from selections such as shrimp salad with roasted shallots and toasted pine nuts, a Maine lobster roll or a Cuban Panini with smoked ham, roast pork, and Swiss cheese.

For dinner, appetizers include onion soup gratinee with Gruyere cheese, poached jumbo shrimp with chives and celery root, or Asian duck confit with pea shoots, dried cranberries and Granny Smith apples. Dinner entrees feature an incredible selection of meats and seafood including Chilean sea bass with braised fennel and butternut squash, grilled Black Angus steak with Yukon mashed potatoes, poached chicken breast with asparagus and fingerling potatoes or braised short ribs with porridge of polenta and steamed broccolini.

Conclude your lunch or dinner experience with decadent desserts such as New York cheesecake with white chocolate curl, a warm apple tart with vanilla ice cream, a vanilla custard cream with burnt sugar topping or your choice of sorbet or ice cream.

The Doubletree Hotel offers 247 guest rooms, and the largest Grand Ballroom in Westchester, with 10,000 square feet of space.  A total of 24,000 square feet of meeting and pre-function space also includes another ballroom and 17 meeting rooms.  In addition, the hotel offers a complimentary Business Center, spa, indoor pool, sauna, fitness center and a separate Glatt Kosher kitchen for accommodating Kosher events.
