Lunch with Liz: Juicy Sushi in White Plains UPDATE: It is closed.
Update on Jan. 15, 2010: The restaurant is now closed.
This just in: There’s now bubble tea and really good (and cheap) sushi in White Plains, thanks to Eddie Cheung, who just opened Juicy Sushi on Main Street near Broadway.
The eel don and the tiger roll here —
— were delicious. More, after the jump.
The restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside.
But when you see that bubble tea sign, you know there’s something going on.
I was introduced to the place by Christian Petroni, the chef de cuisine at Peniche. He brought Anthony Goncalves and me along for lunch yesterday. (Those of you who follow me on Twitter already know where I was for lunch yesterday, though, dont you! I posted a photo of the tea and the tiger roll there yesterday.)
Here’s Christian walkin’ in to the joint:
Eddie, in the white shirt, is talking to the sushi chef:
The many varieties of bubble tea:
Here’s the buble tea counter, where the girls make the magic happen:
And the fish. The menu is very limited, but that’s good… they just opened, and you want to make sure everything is fresh.
The teas. Christian got mango.
I got lychee:
See the tapioca pearls at the bottom?
Anthony got coconut. I don’t know where his photos is. All were well made, well blended and sealed with plastic on top, just like in Chinatown.
Spicy tuna:
Rainbow roll:
Dragon roll:
Eel don:
Tiger roll:
The tiger roll was the best. Fresh, nice combination, easy to eat. The eel was seriously delicious.
The spicy tuna was very tasty. The dragon and the rainbow were not my favorites… I think it was the nori, though.
Anthony treated. For all that stuff, the bill was about $35.
Thanks Christian and Anthony!
Thanks to Eddie, too! I’ll be back for bubble tea (or get it delivered) very very soon.
