Altamura, the restaurant that was supposed to open in the former Via Quadronno space in White Plains, is not going to be operated by Louis Cappelli.
A quote from Geoff Thompson, the spokesman:
After a thorough examination of a wide range of options for the space including creating its own new restaurant, Altamura, Cappelli Enterprises has concluded that the best way to proceed is to seek an outside operator to open and operate a new restaurant there. This is a key location, one of the best restaurant opportunities in Westchester, and the company is optimistic about finding a good fit for the site and the city. Cappelli is currently in contact with a number of restaurateurs and has found that there is strong interest in this strategic corner at the “Crossroads of Westchester.”
I’ll keep you updated if I hear anything else.
Here is my previous post on Altamura.

This is what the spokesman is REALLY saying if you read between the lines:
“Economic Times are tough right now and we decided we don’t want to be in the restaurant business ourselves.
We’ve spoken to some restaurant operators but no one wants to pay the asking rent because our expectations are still too high in this economy.
Perhaps when we get our heads out of the sand and realize we cant get such high rent right now, and we lower our demands, someone will decide they want to open a restaurant here.
In the meantime, we we’ve assigned this location to an unpaid intern to make some more phone calls to every restaurant operator in the Hudson Valley to see if there is interest, and we called a few friends of ours to see if they know anyone that wants this location. Keep your fingers crossed. Maybe there will be action here one day.”
???
Why the pot shots?
Because, it struck ME as a Public Relations press release that really said nothing and seemed to be written by a spin doctor trying to spin bad news into good.
JUST MY OPINION but that’s why I commented.
