Good morning and happy Monday. I have five words for you: Do Not Get The Flu. I’m only now starting to feel somewhat normal again — and that’s after 2 weeks. I don’t have much to report. I went to Cafe Barcel on Friday night to see how I might hold up out of the house… I made it for about an hour.
By Sunday morning, I was finally feeling a little more like joining the land of the living. My husband gave me a madeleine pan for Christmas, so we tested it out for the first time:
The madeleine were delicious!
I’ll write the recipe for you all in another post later.
On Sunday, I went to brunch at Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry with a group of 10 women… celebrating a new baby coming!
Later, I’ll give you a full report on that, too, but for now, know that the food was terrific. Here’s the eggs Benedict:
That was about all I could take for the afternoon, so, after a nap (and another 75 or so pages of Moby Dick.. I’m really making progress for those of you who remember when I started!), I came downstairs to make some real comfort food: eggs in purgatory.
Now you all may remember that I made this dish last winter… here’s the post for that…. and I’m not ashamed (OK I’‘m a little ashamed) to say that the leftover ragu was in the freezer. It’s been almost a year, so I guess it was now or never. I’m really glad we defrosted, though. It was rich and porky and, best of all (for someone who’s still a bit sick), easy.
We started with Salty Dogs. (Recipe coming later.)
Full of vitamin C, right!?
And then made chestnut polenta to go underneath the eggs in purgatory.
Then we enjoyed supper by the fire.
Yeah, so finally, I’m feeling a little better. Thanks for those who sent their well wishes.
And with that, here’s what people have been talking about:
