I met 9 other women for brunch for a baby shower at Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry on Sunday. The setting was fabulous — watching the ice float down the Hudson River is really something — and I really enjoyed the food, too. I mean, you can’t go wrong with French toast with warm berry compote:
Now, I didn’t try everyone’s food — there were just too many people at the table for that. But my dish, the buscuits and gravy with poached eggs and home fries, really hit the mark:
No, not the prettiest thing on the planet, but darn delicious. Here’s a look at the other dishes.
Eggs Benedict:
Frissee and Radicchio
Green Apple, Currants, Pecans & Sherry Vinaigrette with Shrimp added:
Burger:
Chipotle Chicken Caesar:
Another burger:
And, the butternut squash soup:
I’d kind of thought of Half Moon as more of a summer place before this. But the setting, as I said before, was beautiful:
And, as it appears lots of other people already know, well worth a winter visit:

I also enjoyed Half Moon for brunch, Liz. It’s a great choice in an area with relatively few other strong options. And plenty of natural light for nice food shots!
Have you tried The Cookery’s Sunday brunch? I haven’t yet but would love to see your take on it. Their brunch menu looks really appetizing. Cheers, Doug
Hi Doug. Glad you liked Half Moon, too!
I haven’t tried the Cookery for brunch yet, but I hear they have a killer eggs in purgatory dish on the menu. I’m looking forward to it.
