Meet Farmer Jack Algiere at Stone Barns Center
There’s a monthly series at Stone Barns called Meet the Farmer, which gives adults the opportunity to meet farmers Jack Algiere or Craig Haney face-to-face and gain some in-depth knowledge about the products they nuture.
This month’s class will be dedicated to mushrooms. Here’s a description from Stone Barns:
Meet the Farmer: MushroomsApril 3 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Put a face to your food! Join us for this farmer-hosted class focusing on mushroom cultivation. Four-season grower Jack Algiere will lead the group through the basics of growing mushrooms, and participants will help inoculate logs with Shitake and Oyster mushroom spawn. Afterwards, everyone will enjoy a mushroom snack and receive information on how to grow their own mushrooms at home. Whether you are an aspiring backyard farmer, a veteran grower, or a home cook who is interested in learning more about your ingredients, you’re sure to enjoy this unique chance to meet our farmers face to face.
