HVRW: The Hudson House of Nyack
Hi all, guest blogger Meredith Talisman here.
I just returned home from the first go at Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, and boy am I glad I wore my stretchy pants! The food at the Hudson House of Nyack was phenomenal, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes good food in a relaxed atmosphere.

Being so excited to finally try the Hudson House after passing it all the time in downtown Nyack, it slipped my mind to make a reservation! With that being said, fortunately a “first come, first served” table opened up in the bar area, so I was able to sit at one of three high tables by the bar. I would highly recommend making a reservation (As I am sure is true of most HVRW participating restaurants) as the place was packed. Due to my lack of preparedness I can not speak much to the ambiance of the restaurant, but it was an after-work crowd, with the majority of customers being men.  Notwithstanding I was sitting by the bar, I appreciated the fact that I could feel comfortable either in a suit or in jeans.
As for my meal, I started off with the New England Clam Chowder. It was interesting, because they make it with a white wine, so it is not as thick as regular New England Clam Chowder, and it gives the soup a nutty flavor. The soup had some lettuce in it which I found a little strange, until I ate the lettuce and realized how much the lettuce soaks up the soup’s flavor.

My Entree consisted of the Wild Sea Bass. I really enjoyed this dish, as it was pan seared just right. It also came on top of a broth with spinach, peppers, and shallots. The broth had a kick to it, while also highlighting the nuttiness of the shallots. The bass was a light fish that went well with the vegetable broth. The only negative I can say about the bass was that it was a little salty. It’s not overpoweringly salty, but I highly recommend the Wild bass if you are in the mood for a light fish.

Lastly, for dessert I chose the Apple Cake. I am normally one to go for the chocolate, but after the lightness of the bass I had just consumed, I did not want a dessert that was heavy either. The apple cake was delicious! It was just moist enough, with a hint of toffee and sweet apples. Dipping the moistness into vanilla ice cream just topped off my entire meal!

The Hudson House of Nyack, located right on Main Street in Nyack, across from the Riverspace theater, comes highly recommended from this guest blogger!
