ZaZa, a new restaurant named for a popular song in Italy, will open tonight in the spot where Rustico was on Central Avenue in Scarsdale.
“Rustico was here for 17 years and we thought it was a good time to give it a face lift,” says owner Nello Tizzano. “We changed the concept and we have something fresh and new.”
One fresh and new thing is the wood-fired pizza oven, shaped like a beehive and covered with mother of pearl mosiac tiles. Others are the French doors, which open onto the sidewalk, a fresh coat of red paint and red granite bar and pizza counter.
The chef, Vincenzo Melodia, comes from Italy, and shops for the blackboard specials every day. There is no set menu for main courses; everything is on the specials list. Melodia was born in Palermo but grew up in Milan, so you’ll find a lot of risottos, fish and meat — cooked Nothern Italian-style.
The 411 is coming. Til then: 751 Central Park Ave., Scarsdale. 914-472-4005.
