A Fine Kosher Hot Dog in New City

Frankfurter, frank, wiener, wiener dog, red hot, hot dog. Whatever you like to call them, they are an American institution. And the ones at New City Kosher Deli & Restaurant are — dare we say  — to die for.

The Kosher Deli, as locals like to call it, has been serving these dogs for about 12 years at their deli counter — and they sell more than 700 a week.

The brand is Hebrew National, and it’s served in a bun with your choice of ketchup, mustard, red onions, relish, chili, sauerkraut — or the new current favorite: potato salad and mustard. Our suggestion? Red onions. There’s just something about the warm, perfectly cooked crispy dog and the sweet and spicy onions. You can get several to go, masterfully wrapped in foil, or be seated for a feast of baseball days gone by. You will be hard pressed to find a wiener dog — or a frankfurter, frank, wiener, red hot or hot dog — of this stature.

  1. Hey Frank. I’ll jump in for Donna here and say I think she’s saying the combination of a dog with snap and the sweet-hot onions is the best — and what you should order where you go here.
