You may have noticed something new in the prepared foods deli department of DeCicco’s Markets — and at Zeytinia Gourmet Market in Croton — Handmade empanadas.
They are made locally by OMG Gourmet Products, whose rental kitchen is in Bedford. Richard Roldan, his wife Marina (a native of Argentina), and their son, Gary, started the business less than six months ago, and they are already busier than they anticipated.
The empanadas are made with a variety of fillings: beef, chicken, turkey, shrimp, taco and also vegetarian options such as corn, spinach-mushroom-artichoke and asparagus-mushroom-leek. They are pleasantly spiced, with a light fried crust, and they crisp up nicely in a toaster oven — with no greasy residue after re-heating. They make a generous appetizer, or you can pair a few with a salad for a quick meal.

These empanadas are meh….for authentic, made on premises delicious ones try Pablos Deli in Dobbs Ferry, and The Empanada House in Briarcliff Manor. THESE are the real deal, folks…mmmm
The empanadas sold in Zeytinia are not the ones make by OMG. There are grease cheap imitation that is not worth even the time to shop there.
