Baklava at Zimi Cafe in Nanuet or Pearl River

In Turkey there is a saying, “I am not rich enough to eat baklava every day.” But at Zimi Cafe in Nanuet and Pearl River, anyone can enjoy this decadent dessert for just $1.60 a chunky slice. Zimi’s homemade baklava and a cup of hot black coffee is your answer to a cold winter’s day.

Zimi has a huge local following who love its breakfast, specialty sandwiches, bagels, panini and wraps. But the baklava is a standout. It’s handmade with paper-thin phyllo, honey and walnuts, though the exact recipe is a family secret. Each bite imparts a sweet, crunchy, moist delight, and this treat manages a perfect combination of ingredients without it being too sweet.

Zimi Cafe has two locations; Nanuet and Pearl River, and each is open from 4:30 am to 6 p.m. everyday.
