Serafina Opens in White Plains

Serafina, the pizza and pasta restaurant with locations in Manhattan and East Hampton, opened yesterday with a “pasta-cutting” ceremony.

The location, the former Via Quadronno space at the corner of Main Street and Renaissance Square, has been renovated to highlight its new floor-to-ceiling windows, which open to the sidewalk. There is seating for 40 outdoors, shaded by bright yellow umbrellas. Big, modern colorful frescos on the wall set the tone for the dining room, which seats 90 people.

The restaurant is known for its thin-crust pizzas, which are made with 00 Italian flour, filtered water, extra virgin olive oil and Siciliain sea salt, and cooked in a wood-burning pizza oven. (The oven is surrounded by a bar so you can watch as they cook.)

The menu includes different crostini and carpaccios for starters, an arugula and parmesan salad with fig vinaigrette, and pastas such as rigatoni alla bologenese, black truffle ravioli and spaghetti with lobster in spicy tomato sauce.

There are also fish, poultry, vegetable and meat dishes, many of which are cooked over the wood-burning grill.

Our  pizzas are prepared in a specially constructed oven. We have used volcanic lava from Vesuvio,

with a mixture of Sardinian sand and Sicilian sea salt,  in order to ensure a moisture-free & crispy

Pizza dough. We also use a special water filtering system to prepare the dough to resemble the water

in Naples  where pizza originated.  All our mozzarella is daily made with fresh milk, fatta in casa.

  1. Seems like Westchester has gotten the thin-crust bug. And I’m perfectly fine with that! I want to see a battle of the apizza to see who can claim top honors!

  2. My husband and I had an overpriced, underwhelming $29 twelve inch pizza and an adequately cooked but overpriced grilled calamari and salad at Serafina last night. The worst part of the evening however was when we asked the waiter to “validate” our parking at the Ritz, as mentioned in the article above. When we went back to the valet parking at the Ritz they knew nothing about the arrangement and demanded full price. On principal, we went back to Serafina to ask them to validate it again, and they proceeded to ask me which website I found the parking deal on and then made me find the article online. After the manager reread the article several times he begrudgingly gave us the money for the parking but made no offer of any sort to accommodate us for our 20 minute inconvenience and walk in the rain back and forth to the parking. We will not be going back where the food is underwhelming and overpriced, the service is mediocre and the hospitality is nonexistent.

    I’m told there has been a glitch and they are trying to work it out. My apologies. In the meantime there is municipal parking available around the restaurant. The valet parking for at the Ritz is $10. I will delete the mention above so other people don’t go through your same ordeal.

  4. Had dinner here on Sat night. Place was packed. To busy for my liking. I think someone kicked the back of my chair twenty times as they walked by. Food was OK. Started with the Tuna appetizer. It was good , Service was terrible to say the least. No side plates, could not get a drink. When we did get a drink the glasses were half full?? Ordered the grilled Swordfish & Lobster ravioli for dinner. Ravioli was good- waiter never came buy to ask if we wanted cheese or pepper. Swordfish was cut into very thin slices & cooked well done & had no texture or flavor left to it.
    The management kept try to fit outside tables in aisles of restaurant. Waiters couldnt get by , as well as customers. That might work in NY City. But the WP Fire Dept should go give them a lesson on fire codes. I understand them being busy but you cant plop down a four top in middle of walkway & just leave it there. I will give them benefit of the doubt that it was very busy. But I would rather eat at Tre angelina or Francesco’s. Crowd was very trendy- they need to get there act together.

    Yes, the rumors are true. Butterfield 8 will open its doors June 2012. It is located on the corner of Mamaroneck Ave and E. Post Road.
