Where to Get the Best Veggie Burgers

The Westchester Burger Company’s newest outlet in Rye Brook really has something for everyone — including vegetarians. After all, why should meat-eaters have all the fun when it comes to burgers!

This “Greenhouse” burger, an 8-ounce veggie patty, comes with avocado, frisee, caramelized onions and remoulade. I didn’t get to try it — this photo comes from Mary Lynn’s great burger round-up this past Sunday — but I must admit, it looks very tempting indeed.

So that begs the question — Where else can you get a great veggie burger?

I’m a meat-eater, but every so often, when I go to Horsefeathers in Tarrytown, I’ll get one of their veggie burgers. It’s delicious! All of their meat burger varieties can be swapped out for a veggie burger.

  2. Liz, do you know what the veggie burger ingredients include? So often veggie burgers are made with egg — because the chefs haven’t figure out they can use flax meal and water to serve as a great binding agent — and are not vegan friendly. I’m always up for a good veggie burger!

  3. Hey Liz, welcome back. I like my veggie burgers, in particular the black bean burger at Tomatillo with poblanos, corn, chipotle bbq and guacamole on a whole wheat bun. But my favorite is the mushroom burger I recently enjoyed at Cafe of Love. It had the most fantastic texture and flavor. The best in Westchester!

  4. Liz,
I am a vegetarian, and I have a few favorite places for veggies burgers. The first is in Peekskill at Birdsall House, the have a beet and grain burger, which is not your typical veggie patty, it has a great red color due to the beets. Little B’s in Tarrytown is also great, as you can pick whatever fixings you want, and the patty is homemade. My favorite toppings are advocado, jalapeno jack cheece, with chipoltle ketchup. Also, the veggie burger at Dish in Mahopac is great as well! Hope this helps.

  5. I second the recommendation for Birdsall House. They also have a grilled cheese that looks great, though I haven’t tried it myself.
