Hudson Valley Restaurant Week 2012: Meet Roberta Lasky

I moved to Chappaqua 6 years ago from the West Village (yes, for the schools) and my mission has been to discover new restaurants in Westchester.  I love all kinds of cuisines as well as cooking at home.  My family loves my coq au vin.

Looking forward to participating in Small bites’ blogging for this year’s HVRW.

    Guest blogger Roberta Lasky sharing my dining experience of X20 (Xaviar’s On The Hudson) in Yonkers for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week 2012 with you.

    X20 sits on the only Victorian pier still in use from the early 1900’s between the George Washington and the Tappan Zee Bridges. The views are stunning of the Hudson River The Empire State Building can be seen from the ‘Main Dining Salon’s 25 foot vaulted ceiling and 3 walls of glass’. (www.xaviars.com/yonkers/)

    After valet parking our car ($3 w/validation with the hostess) the four of us were seated on the first level of the beautiful restaurant owned by hometown boy Chef Peter X. Kelly. The waiter asked us if we wanted a beverage with our dinner. We ordered Rum Punch, a Bubbly Cocktail. We were immediately offered a baguette of bread and a round ramekin of butter was placed on the table alongside a flower in a low square vase and a lamp.

    As we took in the views, we ordered our appetizers; the Ulster County Field Greens & Goat Cheese w/Apple & Spiced Cashews with Mustard Vinaigrette; Special: Mango Salad w/Coach Farms Goat Cheese.

    Two of us ordered the Special: Spicy Tuna Roll. Everyone was pleased with the choices. All of the ingredients were fresh and full of flavor.

    The goat cheese was creamy and served at the perfect temperature.

    For entrees, one person in my group ordered Whole Roasted New York Sirloin Truffled Yukon Potato Puree & Haricot Vert Shallots & Sauce Choron, which was quite a small portion. The potatoes were delicious.

    One of us ordered The Honey and Sake Marinated Chatham Cod with
    Fregola Sardi with Apples & Wilted Arugula all of which melted in your mouth.

    Two of us ordered the Defiant Beer Braised Short Ribs of Beef with
    Creamy White Polenta & Fried Cauliflower. The meat fell off the bone. The polenta was smooth and the cauliflower was crispy.

    Dessert time arrived. We all ordered a hot beverage. The waiter was kind enough to list the types of teas they had.

    We ordered the special of Pot de Crème served w/two small donuts. It was good, not great. The Melting Valrhona Chocolate Cake with Pistachio Foam was exquisite. The Hudson Valley Apple and Cranberry Cobbler with House Made Cinnamon Ice Cream and Warm Banana & Walnut Bread Pudding Rum Glazed Bananas & Crown Maple & Pecan Ice Cream were both delicious.

    To top off our experience, upon leaving, we munched on the some homemade peanut brittle, which is a treat in itself.

    The next time you want to dine ‘on the waterfront’, grab your favorite Terry Malloy and Edie Doyle and enjoy X20.
