Farmers Market in Rye Brook on March 10

Leah Rae wrote this post on the Sound Shore blog… I’m copying it over here for all you food lovers, too. Take it away, Leah:

Rye Brook has started a farmer’s market of its own.

The plan is to begin with indoormarkets twice a month at the Posillipo Center and then find an outdoor location to use during the warmer months. This market — which goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 10 — is unusual in that the village,  specifically Deputy Clerk Elizabeth Rotfeld, is running the market directly. Other Sound Shore area markets include those run by Community Markets and the seasonal one at PepsiCo. For the list of Rye Brook’s vendors, which are subject to change from week to week, check out the list after the jump.

From our Journal News article:

Many of the 18 vendors signed up for opening day are familiar to the local circuit, including Big Girl Baking, Healthway Farms, Migliorelli Farms, Kontoulis olive oil and Picklelicious.

Local businesses also are taking part, including Bella Cucina Maria in Port Chester and Rye Brook’s Frosted Spoon and Lavish Events.

The market joins others in the Sound Shore that operate year-round in Mamaroneck and seasonally in Rye, Purchase, Pelham, Larchmont and New Rochelle. Rotfeld expects to fill a gap during the offseason and to draw primarily from Rye Brook and Port Chester.

“It’s so much more enjoyable to support something in your own community,” she said.
