Meet Guest Blogger: Christina Halpin, Hudson Valley Restaurant Week Fall 2012

Hey Hey! A pleasure to meet you all, I’m Christina Halpin and I couldn’t be more thrilled to participate in Hudson Valley Restaurant week. I am a lifelong lower Westchester resident (not counting the seven years I spent camping out in Northern New Jersey) and my participation is one part greediness to gobble up all the goodness this week  has to offer and one part giddy excitement to share details on these wonderful hotspots with all of you.

Writing has been in my blood  since I received my first accolades for my work – a grade of a 100 on my 8th grade writing project, a selection of poems written about all my experiences up to that point in my life (such as fights with my mom, friends and a favorite pair of skateboard sneakers). My current profession puts me in the heart NYC’s fashion district every day, where I am part of the E-Commerce team at Before that, I was bringing the fierce at the Tyra Show as the Web Producer and resident web writer.  As far as where food comes in, the passion for that was written in to my DNA. Coming from an Italian-American background, food is all about community for me and I can most often be found catching up with friends and family over something yummy and a glass of wine (or two.) I’ve spent the better part of my social life running around following leads (and sometimes the likes of Guy Fieri…) to discover all the best dishes the tri-state area has to offer.

But my latest adventure has returned this once-prodigal daughter back to Westchester indefinitely as well as changed pretty much everything about my life, especially when and where I get my “Nom” on – a one-year-old fireball named Madeline, my daughter. While our free time is significantly more limited these days, my husband and I still make our eating-out nights count and not sentence ourselves to a lifetime of fast food. As much as our hearts beat to the rhythm of the NYC drum, it’s not always easy to trek in to the city in search of a good meal. When we made the decision to raise our girl closer to our families, I was beyond stoked to stumble upon more home-grown, entrepreneurial spirited establishments right in my backyard. Checking out all these that Westchester eateries have to offer has become a big hobby of mine and I am very glad to share that hobby here!
