Debbie Gioquindo , Hudson Valley Wine Goddess  and I am delighted to be participating as a blogger during the Fall edition of Hudson Valley Restaurant Week. One of the best thing about Restaurant Week is going to try restaurants both established and new that you heard wonderful things about. I have recently been hearing so much buzz about Mark Strausman and Agriturismo and Restaurant Week prompted me to make reservations and headed out to Pine Plains, about a 40 minute drive from where I live. I had to check the place out!
Pine Plains looked like a cute town, but was hard to tell since it’s fall and was dark. Agriturismo is located on the main street so we had to look for parking, which was really no big deal as we don’t mind walking.
Agriturismo is a really cute restaurant from the outside as well as the inside. We were greeted kindly when we entered. Being about 15 minutes (7:30pm reservations) early and figured we could have a drink at the bar. But the bar was full so they sat us at our table and told us to enjoy the drink in comfort.
The place was hopping. Nice energy inside! Since they had gotten a rush at 7pm they told us we would have to wait to order. That was fine by us, we weren’t in any rush. They served us some bread which was very good and I probably ate more that I should have.
Looking over the menu and deciding what we were going to be ordering, I ordered a bottle of the Nebbiola d’Alba to go with our meal. I was very disappointed there was no Hudson Valley Wines on the menu, but this selection went very well with both our selections.
Once we ordered the meal came in a timely manner. The first course Paul decided to get a salad. I think that’s kind of boring, but for him, it’s right up his alley. I ordered the Gnocci Ricotta which was delicious. The local squash and leeks really made the dish! The flavors really melted together and was a great representation of the season.
I don’t usually order pork but there was something about the Josef Meiller Suckling Pig that intrigued me. It was time to step out of my comfort zone. After I ordered I was so glad I did, because the girls sitting at the table next to me ordered the same thing and it looked good. I was not disappointed. The pork was so tender and juicy it delighted my palate.
During our dinner I was listening to see what the people around me were ordering for dessert, so I can take a peak to see if I should order it. Unfortunately I kept hearing they were out of one of the items, but were substituting something else. I couldn’t quite make out what it was and was hoping it wasn’t the Fall Crumble because that was what I was leaning towards.
Wishes come true, as the Fall Crumble was still available. It was an Apple Crumble served warm with a scoop of Jane’s Ice Cream and a lovely ending to a beautiful evening.
