Hudson Valley Restaurant Week Fall 2012 – 42

Hi, this is guest blogger Rinku [1] telling you about 42, ending of the Hudson Valley Restaurant Week for us this season. I often think with a restaurant has a very distinct style and vibe, there will be the occasional dinner who shall not fit quite in, and this probably was the case with 42 and us. Of course, anyone who has visited 42 in White Plains will agree that the view is quite stunning and if you were running a little late like us, you get to wait in the bar and take in the stunning view.

We started the evenings with sangria, and their version was refeshing and fruity. The potato bravas that we ordered to go with it was a little stale tasting and a little scimpy on the aioli.  Once seated the calm and peaceful atmostphere was very relaxing. They has options of three menus and some additional items on the menu as add ons.

The first courses were great. My husband had a planked octopus, which was very rich in flavor and surprisingly tender. I had an order of catavelli, in a fennel pollen sauce.

The sauce was subtle and delicate and the mini catavelli was trully fun. We moved on to the main courses. My husband had a salmon, served over with a crisp head of seasonsed lettuce, that was an artfully presented Cesare Salad. Moist and delicate, but not very eventful.

I had ordered a Portuguese fried chicken, that was served over creamy polenta. The chicken was crisp and coated with a sweet tasting sauce, I did not feel the sweetness had enough of a balance, the sauce could have used some contrast to complete the flavors for me.

Finishing off with the desserts, my husband orded their chocolate pudding that came in a jam jar, it is deep and rich tasting. I ordered something they called a carrot cake triffle, this was more like a crumbled carrot cake over some cream cheese frosting. It was good, if you like carrot cake like I do.
