Hudson Valley Named One of the Top 20 Must-See Destinations in the World; Blue Hill at Stone Barns Gets a Shout-Out

Along places like Uganda, with its exotic and diverse topography of savanna, lakes, rainforests and glaciers; the verdant and shimmering Caribbean island of Grenada; and Bodø, the snow-covered captial of Norway’s Nordland Province, National Geographic Traveler Magazine has chosen the Hudson Valley as one of the top 20 places in the world to visit.
[1]The magazine cited the region’s art, music and food as destination-worthy, mentioning the Hudson River School Art Trail, Clearwater Festival in Croton-on-Hudson, the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and the restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns, left, a leader in the locavore movement.
It also gave a shout-out to shopping, including at “mom-and-pop shops, ‘u-pick’ wildflower fields, and organic farm stands where “chain” is a four-letter word.” The village of Woodstock, Bread Alone Bakery and Sleepy Hollow Cemetery were recommended stops on a tour.
“The Hudson must surely be one of the world’s most extraordinary streams,” 93-year-old musician Pete Seeger, the founder of Clearwater, was quoted as saying in the story. “Other rivers are longer and start higher, but my wife and I and our daughter look every day from the windows of our two-room house and see the Hudson. Bless it!”
St. Augustine, Memphis, the Missouri River Breaks were other U.S. destinations in the article. Find it at travel.nationalgeographic.com. [2]
