Best Coffee Shops in Westchester and Rockland: What’s Brewing for 2013?

A great cup of coffee can be destination-worthy. This week, with many people home from work, is an optimal opportunity to try out a new cuppa Joe at a brand new coffee spot. We have a few great recommendations for the best coffee shops in Westchester and Rockland from local residents.

Calce’s picks: “72 Main Street recently opened up and it’s a wonderful coffee place. They also have wraps, soup and self-serve yogurt.” Details: Open 6 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 6 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday-Friday; 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday; 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday. 72 Main St., 914-268-0272, Tuckahoe. “And then there’s a great Italian coffee place, Pane & Gelato nearby in Eastchester; they have Italian ice cream, gelato and delicious espresso.” Details: 8 a.m.-11:30 p.m. daily, 290 White Plains Road, Eastchester, 914-337-1800.
Derry’s picks: “We like Bagel Boys Cafe in Suffern.” Along with traditional coffee, they also serve Snickerdoodle Coffee, bagels, of course, along with sandwches and wraps. Details: Open 5 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 5 a.m.-3 p.m Sunday. 9 N. Airmont Road, Airmont, 845-368-3456.
DeCicco’s picks: “Dolce serves coffee, capuccino and chocolate!” Details: Open 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. 218 S. Main St., New City, 845-634-2784. “We also go to Goldberg’s which has bagels and great coffee.” Details: Open 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6 a.m.-5 p.m Saturday; 6 a.m-3 p.m. Sunday 6 a.m.-3 p.m. Goldberg’s Famous Bagels, in the Clarkstown Shopping Center, 194 S. Monaco’s picks: “There are so many wonderful shops in Nyack and Piermont that I frequent. I feel a little disloyal by mentioning just a few, but I absolutely must mention my favorite den of decadent eating — Didier Dumas Bakery. Heavenly.” Along with coffee, capuccino and espresso, there are pastries, crepes, and cakes, and tarts. A few tables are available for diners. Jopling’s picks: “The Peekskill Coffee House. I tend to come here a lot; I love the coffee, and the live music here.” There are special blends, beans from South America, Indonesia and Africa, along with organic blends, pastries, muffins and scones, along with ample seating. Art Cafe: The artful foam swirls on the capuccino is enough justification to make the trip to this cozy and colorful cafe. But there are also macchiato, mochaccino and Turkish coffee drinks, too, along with lots of seating and a menu of breakfast and lunch items, including salads and toastinis. Gypsy Donut & Espresso Bar. They serve Stumptown coffee and homemade donuts; they even have gluten free varieties.. Enough said. Details: Open 7 a.m.

Black Cow Coffee Company: This popular Pleasantville and Croton beanery has lots of tables if you want to sit and savor a variety of beans from Brazil, Africa Colombia, Costa Rica and beyond. Special coffee drinks, scones, croissants.
