Sala on Hudson in Croton-on-Hudson: First Taste

Sala on Hudson, a new Spanish tapas restaurant has opened its doors in Croton-on-Hudson. The restaurant is presently open each evening for dinner service. Owners Michael and Shahla Jannetta, and one partner have brought the food of Spain to our community and has been well received. They have indicated that a lunch service will be added shortly. The owners also own two other restaurants in Manhattan, Sala One Nine, located on 19th street, and Rye House located close by on 17th Street. Michael said spending time in Spain, and the amazing food of that country, inspired him to go down this path with restaurants.
Seafood Paella
The menu features a number of tapas (small plates) which range in price from $6 – $14 as of this writing. In addition five full entree plates are available. Of note, the Chuleta de Cerdo, which is a “heritage pork chop” served alongside butternut squash, apples and a touch of sherry. The exterior has a nice garlicky crust and the pork was perfectly done and quite substantial and juicy. Paella is offered with either chicken or seafood. This is a dish for sharing and runs $19 per person. Other recommendations include the Ensalada Rusa which is almost like a Spanish bruschetta consisting of asparagus, egg, bonito, potato and a touch of aioli folded in – – quite good. Cheese and meat combinations are on the menu as well with a range of pricing based on the number of selections (1 for $6, 2 for $10, and 3 choices for $13).
Service is very friendly, the vibe of the restaurant is welcoming and cozy. In addition to the menu, there is a full bar and a list of Spanish wines to pair with your selections.
The current chef, Greg Johnson, is CIA trained and has worked in the kitchens of Fresco by Scotto and Mario Batali in Manhattan.
Visit Sala on Hudson. We were not disappointed especially considering restaurants often need time to work out some issues - – they have hit the ground running.
A daily happy hour is offered with two for one drink specials from 5PM – 7PM for draught beer, wine, and sangria.
Small, yet charming Spanish environment
Full bar in addition to interesting Spanish wine selections to complement your tapas
