I Eat Plants: Westchester NY Veggie EatUP

2

When I first went vegan, I didn’t know any vegans in person. It was much easier when I went vegetarian, because I already had several vegetarian friends. While I very often eat with omnivorous friends, there’s something nice about being able to eat with like-minded people. Plus, when I moved here, I didn’t really know very many people in the area. I quickly started making friends through work and had people to go out with, but it took a while for me to branch out beyond my work friends and non-local friends- and Meet Up groups are a great way to do that!

Enter the Westchester NY Veggie EatUp!

I only started using the group a couple of months ago, and I’m sorry I hadn’t joined in any of their events earlier!

Both of the last two events that I’ve been to have been held at Sweet Grass Grill in Tarrytown, for Meatless Monday. The first one was a good-bye dinner for my I Eat Plants predecessor, JL. This was a relatively small Meet-Up, but it did give me the chance to meet a new veggie friend, which is always nice. The food was pretty good, too!

Vegan Shepherd’s Pie- spaghetti squash, lentils and quinoa, sweet potatoes and chimichurri sauce- there’s a version of this on the regular menu right now, too.

The meet-up I went to this week was at the same place, but with a whole lot more people. Because there were so many, I didn’t get to really meet everyone, but there was lively conversation throughout the evening.

One of the really nice things? The menu actually had the word “vegan.”

See the word vegan? Not once, but twice?

Although that delicious Shepherd’s Pie was on the regular menu, I had the tasting menu- soup and risotto.

I preferred the Shepherd’s Pie from last time, but this was pretty good, too. I look forward to trying some of their other offerings!

No vegan dessert options, but I was pretty full anyway from all of the delicious food.

So are you thinking about joining the Westchester NY Veggie EatUp? Click on over to the site and join- you’ll be informed of all the upcoming events. The group is open to vegans, vegetarians and the veg-curious. There are no fees for joining the group, and anyone can organize a meet-up. Have an idea for a different restaurant or event you’d like to see? We’d love to hear it! It’s a great way to meet other veggie people in the area, and a great way to explore some of the veg offerings that Westchester (and beyond) has to offer.

Maybe I’ll see you at thenext Meet-Up!

She’s a bit of a picky eater, with a special distaste for mushrooms, seaweed, raw tomatoes, and eggplant, though she’s discovered along the way she’s a little more open-minded than she once thought. 1. Looks like a great meal! I was jealous, knowing you were all together! I happened to be dining out with my new Veg MeetUp in Colorado Springs on the exact same night!

  2. I was actually sitting next to Jenn when she heard back from you that’s what you were doing. :-) You were definitely missed from our group, though!
