Local duo opens new restaurant: Central Kitchen in Englewood Cliffs

Two Hudson Valley residents are slated to open a new restaurant in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, called Central Kitchen. The restaurant will open early May and feature contemporary American cuisine with an Italian twist. Named for its central location on the corner of East Palisade Avenue and Route 9W, Central Kitchen will feature landscaped outdoor terraces,  lively weekend bar scene and an option to “grab and go” breakfast and lunch.

Signature dishes include homemade brick oven pizza, hand cut french fries, spaghetti and meatballs and classic meatloaf. The meatballs, rice balls, homemade tomato sauce and spicy pork sausage are all family recipes from owner and Scarsdale resident, Joe Sansotta. He is launching Central Kitchen with help from executive chef John Walsh of New City, a CIA grad and 30-year industry veteran. Walsh’s accomplishments include the Manhattan launch of Gastro Bar, serving as Executive Chef and Director at Wyndham Gardens Hotel, and Chef to Chairman/CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch.

What sets this apart from other family-friendly bar restaurants? A focus on seasonal and local ingredients, like Balthazar bread and Riviera produce (both Englewood-based), cheesecake from Carousel in Nanuet and custom-blended coffee from Arabica in Garfield, along with beef from top-rated Pat LaFrieda Meats, now based in North Bergen.

CK Express, Central Kitchen’s breakfast and lunch to-go spot, will present fresh squeezed juices, healthy sandwiches, yogurt, salad bar and freshly baked goods. Happy Hour and specialty cocktails are planned, like the Lush (muddled farm fresh lemons, Tuaca, raspberry vodka) and classic Dark ‘n’ Stormy (Goslings Black Seal Rum, ginger beer), as well as an affordable wine list, craft beers selection and live entertainment at the bar after 9 p.m. on weekends.
