Moderne Barn hosts ‘Beer and Barnacles’ event to support Armonk Volunteer Fire Company

Local beer, inventive seafood hors d’oeuvres and live music under a cleverly suspended wood-and-glass wine loft defines the ‘urban country chic’ experience that is Moderne Barn in Armonk. And an upcoming event will perfectly display all of the panache they have to offer.Ethan Kostbar, chef at Moderne Barn, has fond memories of Rosh Hashana meals.

From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31 Moderne Barn will host their third annual Beer and Barnacles event to support the Armonk Volunteer Fire Company. Tickets are all inclusive, $75 per person.

Chef Ethan Kostbar has planned an exciting summer menu for the event, with items like sweet summer corn bisque shooters, fluke ceviche cucumber cups and grilled watermelon wedges.

The reception-style affair will also feature food stations with barbecue pulled pork sliders, in-house pickled vegetables, fish tacos and fried hush puppies, along with New York beer from The Bronx Brewery, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company and Sixpoint Brewery. Live music will be provided by Hal Prince Music & Entertainment.

“We are proud to host a night of delicious food, drink, and music that brings the community together, and helps grow awareness and appreciation for local businesses,” says Bill Livanos, co-owner of the family run business which also owns the City Limits diners in White Plains and Stamford and New York City’s Oceana, Abboccato and Molyvos restaurants

“We’re excited to honor the Armonk Volunteer Fire Company this year, and give recognition to the volunteers that keep our community safe.”

If you haven’t been to Moderne Barn, the space is stylishly sharp with clean lines and interesting textures. There are huge farmhouse tables, a vaulted, walnut-barrel ceiling, Edison-bulb chandeliers and enormous, floor-to-ceiling windows that keep the dining room bright.

The menu is New American with a Mediterranean influence. There are comfortable classics like steaks, burgers, paninis and salads although they usually have a fancy twist: the flat-bread pizza selections are basil pesto, white clam, black mission fig or shiitake mushroom and sliders come in BLT, spicy Italian Sausage, fried oyster po’ boy and Maine lobster roll.

Leading up to the event, from June 1 to July 30, guests will be able to support the Armonk Volunteer Fire Company with purchase of a ‘Fireman’s Flight’ of wine director Matthew Christoff’s selected draught beer. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the fire company.
