This weekend HarvestFest at Ridge Hill in Yonkers has something fun and seasonal for everyone, from toddler to foodie.

From 12 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, Ridge Hill is partnering with Friends of the Farmer, Farm On! to provide HarvestFest, a day full of farm fresh food, seasonal cooking and family-friendly activities.

Farm On! Foundation is a Hudson Valley philanthropic foundation that promotes family farms, brings community awareness to food sources and choices for wellness, and funds educational youth programs experiences for the next generation of farmers. Founder and culinary consultant Tessa Edick will be on hand, hosting the “Meet the Farmer, Meet the Chef” event, in which Ridge Hill chefs will collaborate with local farmers to come up with seasonal recipes using fresh local ingredients.

For instance, Havana Central will make a vegetable paella, with local bell peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, onions and winter squash; Elevation Burger will serve  milkshakes with local organic milk, Sur la Table will prepare organic pizza with provided cheddar, mozzarella and broccoli and Brio Tsucan Grill will be whipping up sweet potato and chicken risotto. The list of participating farms for the event include Equinox Farms, Migliorlli Farm, Hudson Valley Fresh,  Cabot Creamery and meat from Herondale Farm.

In addition to farm-fresh ingredients like apples, maple syrup and apple cider doughnuts  available for purchase and cooking demonstrations from Sur la Table, there are a ton of family-friendly activities planned. Children in Halloween costumes can trick-or-treat, plus receive $3 off admission that day at LegoLand Discovery Center. There will also be face painting, pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating and a performance from children’s music group The Deedle Deedle Dees.
