I Eat Plants: Bareburger in Hartsdale

There are three vegan burgers at Bareburger.  Yes, three.

In the Trader Joe’s plaza in Hartsdale, you will now find Bareburger.  And yes, if you’re a meat eater, there are probably things that you’ll be thrilled about there.  But if you’re a plant-based eater, you also have serious reason for joy!

Bareburger is a chain restaurant currently in the Tri-State area (but expanding beyond this year, according to the website).  They feature primarily organic and all-natural ingredients, and a list of foods that you won’t find at most other burger joints, including three different vegan burger patties.

If you check out their website, you will notice that they clearly mark each food item that is vegan (and each that is Gluten-free).  On the menu of the website, the vegan mark does not appear next to the fries- which made me sad, because really- I want fries with my burger. However, according to the menu of the Hartsdale location, the fries are vegan!

I double checked with my server, who reported that they are fried separately in canola oil (another deviation from the website, which says peanut oil).  I can’t vouch for all of the Bareburger locations, but I feel pretty good about eating the fries in Hartsdale!  (Remember, fries are a sometimes food).

I had the black bean burger, complete with Daiya vegan cheddar cheese!

The burger had a really nice texture.  My experience with vegan burgers is that they are often too soft and fall apart easily (I have yet to master making them myself).  This was on the soft side, but it held up with several toppings and being eaten with the bun, just like a burger should be!

I have yet to try the farmer’s quinoa veggie patty, but it’s definitely on my list of things to try (my aversion to mushrooms makes it’s unlikely I will have the portabello burger, but I sure appreciate that they have one!

And get this- they have a vegan dessert!  Carrot cake!  I was far too full to try it on this visit, but I definitely see more visits in my future.

I took a paper menu home with me, and it notes “delivery coming soon.”  This could be very dangerous.

I am definitely a fan of Barebuger, and I am so glad that they came to Hartsdale!

And there’s also a new Mrs. Green’s right down the street.  Hartsdale is pretty awesome!

  1. You know I haven’t gone to any of the burger places that are sprouting up around central Westchester just ’cause I don’t expect any one of them to welcome a vegetarian. Now I know to try Bareburger. Thanks!
