UPDATE 5/9/14: The dinner has been cancelled due to rain.
Here’s a post from Palisades Farmers Market manager Carol Baxter, who is organizing the market’s annual dinner on Saturday May 10. I adore all the vendors at this market, but I’m especially fond of it because it’s the only one in the region where we can get Blooming Hill Farm produce and one of the only spots in Rockland to buy Balthazar bread. And, if you can’t tell from the photo, this is one cool event. Here’s Carol:
Twinkling lights, Chinese lanterns, communal tables, and French music wafting in the air, are only a part of the appeal of the annual Palisades Farmers’ Market dinner. A seasonal meal made from ingredients from the farmers’ and vendors takes center stage.
From 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 10, the Palisades Community Center located at 675 Oak Tree Road in Palisades, NY, will again hold its Farmers’ Market Dinner. Each dish is served a la carte with reasonable portions and prices so that diners can try all there is to offer. The Farmers’ Market Dinner was inspired by the Night Market dinners in the Dordogne region of France, which occur weekly.
Organic greens salad from Blooming Hill Farm, cheese plate from Cooperstown Cheese Company, bread baskets from Balthazar Bakery are just a few of the offerings. Rockland Roots will serve a selection of chicken, fish and a variety of sides. Pies from the Pie Lady & Son, beverages and Fair-trade roasted coffee, cappuccino and espresso from grounded.coffee catering round out the evening’s fare. New this year, advance sale tickets for the dinner are available: For $20 you receive $25 worth of food tickets.
“The farmers’ market dinner is held to celebrate the end of our successful winter farmers’ market,” commented Carol Baxter the President of the Palisades Community Center and Market Coordinator, “and to kick-off the new growing season.”
Earlier in the day, the Farmers’ Market will hold its annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale between 9:00am and 1:00pm. Edge of Knife knife sharpener will be available to sharpen your dull kitchen knives.
Advance sale tickets for the dinner are available at the Farmers’ Market Saturday between 9:00am and 1:00pm or by e-mailing.
