Latin Twist: Frozen Lime Margarita (a.k.a. the WHITE of my red, white and blue!)

0

Last Monday, I had the pleasure of spending the evening with my husband (believe me; it’s a rare occurrence these days!) and walking the High Line. It was a perfect low humidity, crystal-blue sky to a crimson-sunset evening. It was also the night that the U.S.A. team was playing in the World Cup. (I know you’re wondering where I’m going, my friends, but stay with me!) As we grabbed a bite and a sip in one of the fun bars below the High Line, U.S.A. scored  the winning goal, and the crowds, all up and down the block, went wild.  As they cheered and clapped, I got that  feeling you get when you watch a parade and everyone is on the same beat. Feeling a mix strong mix of national unity and pride, I was so happy to be right then and there and that moment.

This, mis queridos amigos, leads me today’s post about the Frozen Lime Margarita.f In the spirit of nationalism and patriotism, I am creating a series of summery red, white, and blue cocktails in the weeks leading up to July 4th. Last week, I wrote about the red-the delightfully refreshing Strawberry Jalapeño Mojito-and next week we’ll explore blue (!), but today, it’s all about the frozen lime margarita!

So, what is the key to a great frozen margarita? Fresh and high-quality ingredients, of course. Use a white tequila that you like (pure agave, preferred…) fresh squeezed lime juice, and excellent quality orange liqueur. ¡Buen provecho! Enjoy!

About Author

Maybe it was the dinner parties my mom always threw—or the hours I spent prepping and cooking alongside her (and then on my own!). Or maybe it was array of fabulous dishes that my family sampled in New York City’s richly diverse restaurants, but I’ve loved creating, savoring, and sharing food for as long as I can remember. Living in Spain, and later in Peru, also greatly influenced my life. These years abroad taught me Spanish—and about living in different countries--but also introduced me to teaching English as a second language, which I’ve done—mostly in the US-- for the past 20-plus (yikes!) years. I’ve authored two cocktail/tapas books, Mambo Mixers and Calypso Coolers, coauthored more than 15 others (mostly food related!), and raised two children. Now I'm chef and owner of my own restaurant, Mambo 64 in Tuckahoe, New York. My message is the same, whether I'm teaching, writing, running the restaurant or being a regular guest on the Spanish-language network Telemundo (on the morning show, Buenos Días Nueva York!). My belief in food—and the power of food—is far reaching, and is married with another one: the power of stories. I’m sure that if we could all sit down and have meals together, sharing both tastes and tales, we’d have peace on earth. Enjoy!
