Summer is here! Summer is here! And, I realized this last week when I chanced into the Croton Farmers market and spied my first batch of fresh and ripe strawberries. They were freshly picked shiny and waiting to be savored. I have mostly been enjoying them plain, in handfuls, have been savoring them with saffron whipped cream (a recipe from the Spices and Seasons cookbook) and been enjoying them for breakfast in a lassi. Lassi is an Indian style yogurt smoothie, that can be enjoyed both sweet and lightly salted and I tell you more about them in this post.
Today’s recipe is for a strawberry and banana lassi. This should give you another way to use up those wonderful overripe bananas, that are nature’s powerhouses of protein and nutrition. Sure there is banana bread, but, lets face it, when its hot you really do not want to crank up the oven do you. In this single glass, I actually end up with two servings of my fruit for the day which gets me as you can imagine on to a very good start.
The last few days, I have been doing other fun things with strawberries as well, which I shall share with you over the next few months and of course if you want to play along and see what I do as I do it, make sure you check out my instagram page or join me on twitter @wchestermasala. Now, once you have yogurt, a super ripe banana and the strawberries, this takes less than 10 minutes to put together. And just because, I love to add flavor (read spice to everything) I add just a whisper of freshly grated nutmeg to balance things out.
