This is the first year Blue Hill at Stone Barns has been named on the prestigious list, which is compiled by 972 experts, who each cast seven votes for their restaurants that they have dined in during the last 18 months. At least three of their choices must be outside of their geographical region and panelists may not have a stake in the restaurants for which they vote.

There are five other US restaurants on the 50 Best list: Eleven Madison Park, New York City; Le Bernardin, New York City; Alinea, Chicago; Per Se, New York City and The French Laundry, Yountville, California.
